Case Study: Old Brentwoods Club
The Old Brentwoods Club is a multisport venue that hosts external functions as a way of generating revenue that is reinvested back into the club to improve facilities for both sport participants and external visitors alike.
Overview
As with most multi use sports clubs, it was well used in the evenings and at weekends, but there was a recently refurbished function suite laying idle from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday (MF95).
Committee decided that increasing the number of Wakes was going to be the best way of achieving the forecasted revenue target and formed the MF95 project team. The project team’s remit was to raise money to enable step free access from the car park to the function suite and to refurbish the toilets and bring them up to hotel standard.
Issue/s to be resolved
The club was hosting one or two Wakes per month but were losing two out of three potential bookings because the function suite was on the first floor (accessible via two flights of stairs), and the toilets were outdated and not up to the standard required to host external functions.
Action taken
-
Raised £60k via Crowdfunding (including match funding from Sport England) and undertook the project.
-
Developed relationships with local Funeral Directors and Crematorium.
-
Created a Wake specific brochure, Website content and advertised via social media.
Results
We now have an average of six per month, and are on target to exceed Wake revenue target.
